ADES

As an Association of Diabetics for Children of Senegal, our organization can provide assistance in various ways:

Raising awareness

It is indeed important to raise awareness among the population about the risks of diabetes. We organize awareness campaigns to educate people about healthy lifestyles, the complications of diabetes, and ways to prevent the disease.

Education

Children with diabetes require additional educational support to understand their condition, learn how to monitor their blood sugar levels, and know how to manage their diet and physical activity. We organize educational sessions for children with diabetes and their families to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Financial assistance

Indeed, children with diabetes often require medications, glucose monitoring devices, and other costly medical supplies.

Fatima

In the summer of 2022, I met Fatima in Sénégal.A 14 year old girl full of life, with a radiant smile that could light up a room. However, Fatima suffered from type 1 diabetes, a condition that required her to receive daily insulin injections and closely monitor her blood sugar levels.

Despite the challenges she faced, Fatima remained optimistic and determined. She was determined to live a full life and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. She worked hard in school and took good care of her parents and siblings, but diabetes was a cruel and unpredictable disease.

One day, Fatima fell ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. His blood sugar levels were dangerously high and his body was unable to stabilize the glucose in his blood. Fatima came from a poor family that struggled to meet their basic needs. In a desperate situation, the parents called us from Senegal to ask if we could offer them financial assistance to cover taxi and hospital costs, which we did. As a result, they eventually managed to get to the hospital, but despite the best efforts of her doctors and nurses, Fatima sadly died on January 17, 2023 from complications of diabetes. His family and friends were beyond comfortable. They had lost a bright and promising daughter who had so much to offer the world. Fatima's death is a stark reminder of the devastating impact diabetes can have on young lives. Could her death have been avoided if she had received medical care sooner or if she had had the financial resources to begin treatment on time? Unanswered questions that will forever haunt the minds of those close to him. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and her story serves as a call to action to ensure that every diabetic child in Senegal receives the care and support they need to live a healthy and healthy life blossomed.
